Douglas Brown took a convoluted path to accounting, trying several different majors and deciding on a Bachelor of Arts in History from UT Tyler, then getting his Master’s of Accountancy from UT Tyler as well. The history degree has served him well in preparing him for researching answers to a variety of tax questions. After getting his MAcc, Douglas took the CPA Exam and earned the Elijah Watt Sells Award for his outstanding performance on it. He then joined GMP in 2015 and found that its work culture and ethos were a perfect fit. His professor, Dr. Mary Fischer, whom he was a Teaching Assistant for at UT Tyler, recommended him to the firm. While Douglas has worked with client’s taxes for a variety of industries, oil and gas taxation is his main specialty.
Douglas moved around a lot as a child, but having lived in Tyler since 2002, considers it home. Douglas spends his free time writing historical fiction and a blog on his author website (and self-published The Honorable Spy in 2022) and spending time with his family (especially his niece and nephew).
